Jónsi (of Sigur Rós)

I am beyond ecstatic that we will be seeing Jónsi of the Icelandic band Sigur Rós in Chicago April 28th!!! The last few times Sigur Rós has been on tour near me I have been out of the country every single time and been anxiously wanting to see them live for years now! While it's not ACTUALLY Sigur Rós, it's as close and as good as it gets! I am loving Jónsi's solo album 'Go'! It still has the same feel as some of the Sigur Rós songs but definitely has a more upbeat sound! This 'Making Of The Live Show' video made me squeal with delight! I am so stoked for this show! It's going to be an unforgettable experience no doubt! Happy that I'll be sharing it with my favourite person on earth....my husband! :)

Jared and I are both hoping to see lots of great live shows from well-loved artists while we are in foreign lands. Hoping to discover some new music during our time overseas too! The possibilities are endless and my hopes are high! :) Music is my fuel.

How Do You Say......Silly?

So apparently the Japanese think that these are key phrases that one must know in the English language. I wonder if these are important phrases that we need to learn in French before we move.....considering that Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in the world I'm going to go with no on this one. At least I got some entertainment out of this video though!

I laughed pretty darn hard when the one "robber" came out wearing his bandanna tied under his nose! Comical! This is a silly video all around.

But if you thought that video was funny, here is another one by the same group that needs no introduction.

It's good to start the week off with humor! :)

Learning The Language

After watching this VIDEO from swissinfo.ch I realized just how many languages my husband and I will encounter in our daily lives once we move to Switzerland. I knew that French, of course, would be spoken in the area where we will be living and that German and Italian were common languages spoken in Switzerland but this video represents the majority of common languages we will hear spoken during our time in Switzerland. During our brief visit to Switzerland earlier this year we noticed that there was not a whole lot of English being spoken, not that we expected them to because that is not their native tongue. Just as they should expect that when they come to America, the majority of American's speak English as their primary language. This video was just another glimpse at our future. We are going to face everyday challenges in simple communication because while I speak English and a fair amount of Spanish and Portuguese and Jared speaks English and a fair amount of German, neither of us speak a second language fluently. I'm just thankful we have each other, it will be easier to face those types of challenges with someone else rather than facing them alone.

I wouldn't say I'm intimidated by the whole idea of not knowing the language, I am excited to learn it actually. We bought the French Rosetta Stone program and have learned some basic phrases and words and have enjoyed learning together. I know we will pick up the language much more quickly once we are there and in a sense, forced to use it. Of all the languages to be forced to learn I think French is a pretty good one. :)

I love learning about other cultures and because of that I am excited about this adventure and opportunity. I love to see how other parts of the world live, what their traditions are, their passions, their way of life. I can't wait to be immersed in Swiss culture!
